The EXPLORE SCIENTIFIC S-II filter allows you to accurately observe planetary nebulae, emission nebulae and supernova remnants.

The main advantages of the filter are:

  • High quality EXPLORE SCIENTIFIC S-II filter
  • It only allows the ionized sulfur emission line to pass at 672 nm
  • Absorbs all other emission lines and almost all artificial light
  • For planetary nebulae, emission nebulae and supernovae
  • Bandpass width: 12nm
  • Ideal for use near cities, in poorly lit skies
  • Includes individual test certificate to ensure you receive a top quality filter

One of the most important obstacles to exploring the night sky is its illumination by artificial lights such as streetlights. The night sky is not dark near cities, which greatly reduces the visibility of objects beyond the solar system. Depending on the type of celestial object, it is possible to increase contrast dramatically by blocking interfering artificial light.

The EXPLORE SCIENTIFIC S-II filter uses the property of so-called emission nebulae. These objects shine with certain colors, the so-called emission lines. The emission lines are associated with certain chemical elements, in this case ionized sulfur.

The EXPLORE SCIENTIFIC S-II nebula filter blocks all other colors (and therefore almost all artificial light) and allows only the emission lines of ionized sulfur at 672 nm to pass. The effect is surprising: suddenly, nebulae become visible in places that seem completely empty without the filter. In slightly illuminated skies many planetary nebulae, emission nebulae and supernova remnants are seen without any difficulty when using this filter. Essential for every visual observer and for astrophotography.

EXPLORE SCIENTIFIC nebula filters come with an individual test report - so you can be sure of getting high quality filters.
