Dew is often a problem on clear nights. After a short time, the optics begin to fog up, making observation or photography impossible. A good dew cover reduces the risk of fogging and thus prolongs observing time. It also prevents stray light from the side. Stray light, such as from streetlights, reduces contrast and often causes unwanted reflections in photographs. A protective cover prevents stray light from entering the telescope.

The article is manufactured from PETG using a 3D printing process and is dimensionally stable up to 80°C.
