Cassegrain TS 6" f/12 telescope with fused quartz mirror and only 38% obstruction: a good alternative to a Schmidt-Cassegrain

Summary of advantages:

  • Opening 6" - 154 mm
  • Focal length 1848mm
  • F ratio f/12
  • Large illuminated image field with 40 mm diameter
  • Hyperbolic secondary mirror and parabolic primary mirror made of quartz glass for stable focusing position
  • 96% reflection on primary and secondary mirror for an even brighter image
  • Quick temperature adaptation thanks to open design
  • Pure reflective system without Schmidt plate or meniscus lens - fully suitable for infrared
  • Linear obstruction of only 38% – well suited for visual astronomy
  • 2" Crayford Focuser with Micro Gear Reduction and 1.25" Reduction Included
  • M90 extension tubes for hassle-free focusing with almost all accessories included
  • Internal baffles for greater contrast
  • Also included are the Vixen EQ5 style finder shoe and dovetail
  • OTA therefore no mount in the scope of delivery

TS-Optics GSO 6" f/12 Classic Cassegrain Telescope

Cassegrain telescopes combine the benefits of a Newtonian telescope by being a pure reflective system with a short construction design. In terms of optical quality, Cassegrain telescopes are superior to typical Schmidt-Cassegrain systems. Cassegrain telescopes are mainly used for photography of the moon and planets and for observing astronomical objects. Thanks to the highly sensitive sensors built into modern astronomical cameras, it is even possible to photograph nebulae, star clusters and galaxies in the deep sky.

Summary of the advantages of TS-Optics Cassegrain telescopes:

♦ Less field curvature than with SC telescopes.
♦ Pure reflection system without Schmidt plate, as a result, even infrared photography is possible with maximum sharpness.

♦ Significantly faster temperature adaptation than a SC, due to the open design.
♦ Brighter image due to 96% dielectric coating on the primary and secondary mirror.
♦ No displacement, because the primary mirror is fixed
♦ High quality 2" Crayford focuser with micro gear reduction and compression rings for 2" and 1.25" accessories
♦ 38% obstruction caused by the secondary mirror, comparable to SC telescopes.
♦ Better sharpness on the optical axis due to precise mirror surfaces and the lack of a Schmidt plate
♦ Less problems with dew: with Schmidt-Cassegrains you get condensation on the face plate, not with Cassegrain
♦ Interior baffles for even greater contrast
♦ Wide rear focus that allows the use of 2" accessories.
♦ Compact tube with only 500mm length - can be operated with smaller mounts
♦ Significantly less expensive than other classic Cassegrain telescopes!

The TS-Optics Cassegrain is a versatile telescope

Mobile Travel Telescope: Take the compact and lightweight telescope with you to your travel location. It only takes a few seconds to unscrew the focuser, making the Cassegrain even more compact and fit in your carry-on luggage.

Telescope for observation of astronomical objects: Due to the bright and contrasted image and also the large illuminated and corrected image field, the Cassegrain is optimal for the observation of astronomical objects. 2" and 1.25" fittings are no problem. The obstruction by the secondary mirror is only 38%. This is comparable to Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes. As a result of the 96% reflection of the primary and secondary mirror, the image is significantly brighter. Even the field sharpness is better, because the image field is basically undistorted.

Telescope for astrophotography: The Cassegrain is very suitable for photography of the moon and planets. The visual contrast is very high. Due to the interior baffles, stray light is effectively suppressed. Planets and tiny lunar craters can be seen without the slightest chromatic aberration. Thanks to its microgear reduction, the Crayford focuser allows for precise focusing.
