With a 130mm primary mirror, the StarQuest 130/650 Newtonian Telescope collects 30% more light than a 114mm telescope.

With this telescope, and under very dark skies, you can see more detail than with a smaller instrument. The beginner can invest in a very high-quality telescope on a budget.

For planetary observations, it will reveal many details about Jupiter, Saturn, and the Moon using a Barlow lens or short-focal-length eyepiece. Its Newtonian design offers several advantages over other types of instruments (refractors and Cassegrain telescopes).

Mirror manufacturing is primarily more economical (spherical mirrors) with the same diameter, and their focal length ratio is generally more economical. The central obstruction is also lower than that of Cassegrain-type telescopes, and if proper collimation (mirror adjustment) is observed, image quality is good for planetary observations.

The StarQuest equatorial mount offers good stability for this 130 Newtonian telescope , even at high magnification, as well as good robustness for an entry-level instrument. It also allows for precise positioning in the sky thanks to the movement controls on each axis.

Derived from the StarAdventure travel mount, it utilizes its design, per-axis clamping system, and tracking quality. The male dovetail located under the optical tube fits over the female dovetail of the mount.

The equatorial mode design allows, after installation (simply adjusting the mount's orientation towards the North Star), to compensate for the Earth's rotation.

An optional SW0442 motor (easy to attach and use) is available for added user convenience.
