The most versatile Sky-Watcher beginner telescope

  • Perfect instrument for beginners.
  • Planetary multipurpose and deep sky initiation.
  • Thanks to its motorization, it allows you to start taking images.
  • Transportable by a single person.

Go out and discover the wonders of the sky without further delay. The brightest objects in the deep sky (nebulae, globular clusters or galaxies) are easily observed and, far from the light pollution of cities, even show details. In combination with good eyepieces and interference filters such as UHC or Deep-Sky, choose the magnification that best suits the object you are viewing. Combined with a binocular head, discover the sky like never before. The relief impression seems "unreal" and yet the Orion Nebula really takes on a particular 3-dimensional appearance. Observation comfort thanks to the use of both eyes reduces eye strain and provides access to more details! To try it as soon as possible!

A Newton Sky-Watcher 150P (150/750) optical tube

With a 150mm primary mirror, the Sky-Watcher Newton 150P collects 73% more light than a 114mm telescope. Under a very dark sky, it is possible to see many celestial objects that are barely visible with smaller diameter instruments. It promises beginners many discoveries. In planetary observing, you will reveal many details about Jupiter, Saturn and the Moon using a Barlow lens or short focal length eyepiece.

Its Newton design offers several advantages over other families of instruments (Cassegrain glasses and telescopes). Mirror manufacturing is more economical for the same diameter and its average focal length (750 mm) is very versatile. In this way, you will be able to benefit, for an attractive price, from a bright telescope that will allow you to observe a wide field of observations. The central obstruction is also weaker than that of Cassegrain-type telescopes.

Focusing is achieved through a dual-flow Crayford eyepiece, 2'' (50.8 mm) and 1.25'' (31.75 mm). Adaptation to the 31.75 mm carriage is carried out using a supplied mechanical reducer. Therefore, you can use the optional eyepieces and accessories available on the 2 lenses. An adjustment screw located below the focuser allows you to maintain focus by following the orientation of the optical tube.

Unlike very cheaply made or small diameter Newton telescopes, the 150, 200, 254 and 300 mm Newton Sky-Watchers have a parabolic primary mirror. The mirrors are polished spherically and then trimmed to achieve a parabolic shape (more expensive and difficult to obtain). This is an essential selection criterion for instruments larger than 130 mm and with a short focal length.

To present as little obstruction as possible, the secondary (flat) mirror mounting bracket has 4 thin branches, with a width of 0.5 mm. Being sufficiently rigid, they limit diffraction peaks in bright stars and excessive luminosity loss.

A 6x30 achromatic finderscope on its support is also supplied as standard.

An EQ3-2 equatorial mount with aluminum tripod

For hobbyists interested in visual observation, the EQ3-2 mount allows for quality vibration-free observations. The larger version, the HEQ5 Pro Go-To mount, will be preferable for those looking to get into long exposure astrophotography.

The EQ3-2 mount supports many telescopes up to 150mm diameter (5.5kg maximum) or telescopes up to 100mm diameter. It has fine movements in azimuth and latitude to facilitate positioning and wheels that compensate for the rotation of the earth (to keep the object in the center of the ocular field).

The adaptation of the optical tube is carried out using a standard Vixen type female dovetail. An accessory tray guarantees good rigidity of the set. The EQ3-2 mount can accommodate a polar finder (optional) to be installed on the polar axis for quick positioning.

A two-axle motorization

The dual-axis motorization with control handle is equipped with a self-guiding plug (port ST4 on the handle). Power is supplied via a battery box (batteries not included). An external 6 volt DC power supply (optional) can also be used.

ATTENTION ! The power supply is carried out with a voltage of 6V and not 12V as in the case of other Goto engines and kits. So be careful when choosing your electrical sources.

The control panel includes 4 keys: 2 for right ascension corrections and 2 for declination corrections. The controller has 3 speeds: 0.5x/2x/16x sidereal speed, a three-position switch: Northern Hemisphere / Stop / Southern Hemisphere and a switch for "Sun / Moon / Stellar" speed tracking. When used with a ground rectifier or angled return, it is possible to reverse the direction of the 4 buttons (up, down, left, right).
