  • Versatile optical tube for visual observation and astrophotography
  • Ideal for planetary and deep sky observation (galaxies, nebulae)
  • German NEQ5 equatorial mount
  • Transportable by one person

With a 200 mm primary mirror, Sky-Watcher's Newton 200 is one of the amateur instruments capable of revealing many deep sky objects and details about the planets and the Moon. In fact , collects 78% more light compared to a 150mm telescope and promises, for both beginners and amateur astronomers, years of observations rich in discoveries.

Its Newton design offers several advantages over other families of instruments (telescopes and Cassegrain telescopes). Mirrors are cheaper to manufacture for the same diameter and their focal ratio is generally very low. Then you benefit from an attractive budget of a bright telescope that provides a large field of observation (here f/D=5) . The central obstruction is also weaker than Cassegrain-type telescopes.

Unlike of the very cheaply manufactured or small diameter Newton telescopes, the 150, 200, 250 and 300 mm Newton Sky-Watchers They have a parabolic primary mirror . The mirrors are polished spherically and then trimmed to achieve a paraboloid shape (more expensive and difficult to obtain). This is an essential selection criterion for instruments above 130 mm and with a short f/D .

Focusing is achieved through a Crayford bi-flow focuser. A 31.75mm adapter is supplied as standard to use eyepieces of the same format from the 50.8mm output. A clamping screw located on the bottom of the focuser helps maintain focus according to the orientation of the optical tube.

To present as little obstruction as possible, the secondary (flat) mirror mounting bracket has 4 thin branches , with a width of 0.5 mm. Sufficiently rigid, they thus limit diffraction peaks in bright stars and excessive loss of luminosity. A 9x50 achromatic viewfinder on its support is also supplied as standard, as well as 2 Super Plössl eyepieces of 25mm and 10mm.

All about the Sky-Watcher NEQ5 mount

The equatorial mount Sky-Watcher NEQ5 is a mount that does it all, a worthy successor to the legendary Vixen GP . Very modular, it is possible to add several options depending on whether it is intended for observation or photography: motorization, Goto automatic aiming kit, polar scope, etc. Its load capacity is close to 9kg in visual observation. ; The NEQ5 will therefore support many optical tubes, from the small 80mm refractor to the Newtonian telescope up to 200mm in diameter.

In photography, the load will be limited to 7.5 kg, for greater comfort and precision. Like all equatorial mounts, the NEQ5 is equipped with an azimuth and latitude motion set (for positioning) and a right ascension and declination motion set for pointing and tracking the stars.

The optical tube is adapted using a Vixen-type female dovetail. An accessory tray ensures good rigidity of the assembly. The NEQ5 mount can receive a polar finder (option #SW0124 ) on the polar axis to quickly establish station. The visual observer will appreciate the GOTO SynScan automatic signaling system (optional) delivered via easy-to-use manual control. In fact, it is not necessary to know the position of stars or distant stars in the deep sky, the Go-To system of the NEQ5 mount is responsible for moving the instrument towards the target you want to observe.
