With a 200mm primary mirror, the Sky-Watcher Newton 200 is one of the most versatile amateur instruments capable of revealing numerous deep-sky objects and details on the planets and the Moon. In fact, it captures 78% more light than a 150mm telescope and promises years of discovery-filled observations for both beginners and amateur astronomers.

Its Newtonian design offers several advantages over other families of instruments (Cassegrain spectacles and telescopes). Mirrors are more economical to manufacture for the same diameter, and their focal ratio is generally very low. You can therefore benefit, for an attractive price, from a bright telescope offering a large field of view (here f/D = 5) . The central obstruction is also weaker than that of Cassegrain-type telescopes.

Unlike the cheaply made or small diameter Newtonian telescopes, the Sky-Watchers 150, 200, 250 and 300 mm Newtonian telescopes have a parabolic primary mirror . The mirrors are spherically ground and then trimmed to achieve a parabolic shape (which is more expensive and difficult to obtain). This is an essential selection criterion for instruments longer than 130 mm and with short f/D .

Focusing is achieved through a Crayford dual-flow eyepiece. A 31.75 mm adapter is supplied as standard for using 31.75 mm eyepieces from the 50.8 mm output. An adjustment screw located on the bottom of the eyepiece holder allows you to maintain focus by following the orientation of the optical tube.

To provide minimal obstruction, the secondary (planar) mirror mounting bracket has four thin branches , each 0.5 mm wide. These branches are sufficiently rigid, limiting diffraction spikes on bright stars and limiting excessive light loss. A 9x50 achromatic finderscope is also supplied as standard on its bracket, as well as two Super Plössl eyepieces, 25 mm and 10 mm.

Everything you need to know about the Sky-Watcher NEQ5 mount

The Sky-Watcher NEQ5 equatorial mount is a versatile mount, a worthy successor to the legendary Vixen GP . Highly modular, various options can be added depending on whether it is intended for observation or photography: motorization, Goto automatic pointing kit, polar viewfinder, etc. Its payload is close to 9kg for visual observation ; therefore, the NEQ5 will support numerous optical tubes, from the small 80mm refractor to the Newtonian telescope up to 200mm in diameter.

For photography, we'll limit the load to 7.5 kg for greater comfort and precision. Like all equatorial mounts, the NEQ5 is equipped with a set of azimuth and latitude movements (for positioning), and a set of right ascension and declination movements for stargazing and tracking.

The optical tube is adapted using a Vixen-type female dovetail. An accessory tray ensures good rigidity of the assembly. The NEQ5 mount can accommodate a polar finderscope (option #SW0124 ) on the polar axis for quick station setup. The visual observer will appreciate the optional SynScan GOTO automatic pointing system delivered via an easy-to-use hand controller. In fact, it is not necessary to know the position of distant stars or deep-sky objects; the NEQ5 mount's GoTo system takes care of moving the instrument towards the target you wish to observe.

A two-axis motorization

The dual-axis motor with racket is equipped with a self-guiding socket (ST4 port on the racket). Power is supplied via a battery box (batteries not included). An external 6-volt DC power supply can also be used (optional).

The control panel includes 4 keys: 2 for right ascension corrections and 2 for declination corrections. The racket has 3 speeds: 0.5x/2x/16x sidereal speed, a three-position switch: Northern Hemisphere / Stop / Southern Hemisphere, and a switch for "Sun / Moon / Star" speed tracking. When used with a ground rectifier or angle return, it is possible to reverse the direction of the 4 buttons (up, down, left, right).

ATTENTION! The power supply is 6V , not 12V as is the case with other motors and GoTo kits. So be careful when choosing your power supplies.
