The SkyWatcher Refractor 102/500 AZ-Go2 Wifi combines convenience and performance. Its very bright refractor makes observing deep-sky objects more evident. Furthermore, although it is an achromatic refractor, and therefore will exhibit some chromaticity on the Moon and planets, the deep-sky image will be completely clear. For planetary photography, the use of a 2x Barlow lens and/or a Constras booster filter is recommended to start taking images with good results.
The Moon is a marvel you can admire for years, as the number of craters on its surface is so large. The tube is very compact and the whole unit is easily transportable. Paired with long focal length eyepieces, observing the brightest deep-sky objects, such as the Great Orion Nebula (M42), the Hercules Cluster (M13), or the Perseus Double Cluster, will satisfy both the beginner and the curious amateur. Under a dark sky, other objects (those in the Messier catalog in particular) can easily be distinguished.
The SynScan Go-To automatic localization system
This version of the AZ GOTO mount (without a handset) requires the download of the free SynScan app. You can then control your mount directly from your smartphone or tablet using a Wi-Fi card integrated into the mount. When the connection is activated, you can control your mount from the SynScan app with the same functionality as with your handset.
To offer greater user convenience, SkyWatcher has decided to equip part of its range of instruments with a dual-axis azimuth and GOTO motorized mount capable of rapid pointing and tracking. Therefore, it is not necessary to know the position of stars or distant deep-sky objects; the SkyWatcher AZ-Go2 mount moves the instrument toward the target you wish to observe. After calibration, pointing the optical tube north, and leveling, you can select to align the mount on one or two stars. The database stores more than 42,900 objects from the major catalogs (Messier, NGC, IC, as well as the planets, the Moon, and the Sun).
For maximum convenience, the mount is quickly navigated using the buttons on the SynScan app on your smartphone or tablet. Easy to use, it helps you quickly point the instrument at any galaxy, nebula, cluster, or object in the solar system. Discover in detail the famous Andromeda Galaxy, the fabulous curtains surrounding the heart of Orion, the Hercules cluster M13 and its rich core of thousands of stars. Saturn, Jupiter, and the Moon are also wonders to be scrutinized without restraint.
The date, time, and location display on your tablet or smartphone, combined with the "Tour" function, allows you to point the AZ-Go2 at the most interesting objects throughout the night. Take a guided tour of the sky at your observing location based on the object displayed in a drop-down list.
The ability to track (monitor) any object eliminates the need for systematic manual adjustments. The object remains in the center of the field, making it easier to discover details, especially on planets. Thanks to a load capacity of around 5 kg, the Sky-Watcher Refractor 102/500mm telescope is securely supported, and vibrations are quickly dampened despite the presence of a single-arm fork. The telescope is secured with a Vixen male dovetail; the instrument is then quickly and easily detached from the mount. Another long-term advantage is that the mount is upgradeable: you can attach other instruments (binoculars, refractors) thanks to its Vixen-type female dovetail mount.
You can also use the "point and go" feature: point your smartphone at a region of the sky... thanks to the SynScan app, the mount will move directly there. Updates will be continuously developed to increase the app's functionality. PC control via Wi-Fi is possible, and it is compatible with ASCOM and EQMOD.
