The TELRAD finder is a reticle finder that can be mounted on any telescope and makes it very easy to align the telescope with the sky.
The TELRAD finder is a practical alternative to classic optical finders and red dot finders. The entire sky is seen without magnification, and not just a small section, as in a normal optical finder. Over this sky background, three concentric illuminated red rings are projected, with apparent diameters of 4°, 2°, and 0.5° in the sky. Simply turn the telescope so that the desired object is in the inner ring, and that's it: the telescope is pointing in the correct direction. Since the desired object is in the inner ring, it also doesn't get saturated as it would in a normal red dot finder.
The TELRAD finder base is self-adhesive and can be attached to all telescope tubes from about 10 cm in diameter. The base is approximately 18 cm long. This base remains on the telescope tube, while the TELRAD finder can be attached and removed at any time with the installed quick-release coupling. The TELRAD is powered by two standard AA batteries (not included).
There are star atlases, such as the "Deep Sky Reiseatlas" from Oculum publishing, and planetarium software for computers, such as "Stellarium," in which the three TELRAD rings are already drawn to scale or can be marked around interesting celestial objects. Searching for these celestial bodies becomes child's play.
