ZWO AM5 N: the latest generation of the proven AM5 harmonic equatorial mount
The new "N" version of the ZWO AM5 It supports telescopes up to 15 kg without a counterweight and even up to 20 kg. with Counterweight (counterweight and counterweight bar sold separately). The compact and very lightweight mount, weighing only 5.5 kg, can be used in parallax mode for astrophotography and in altazimuth mode for observation.
The handheld control device and the control app are included in the scope of delivery; thanks to the integrated wifi, no cables are needed.
New in version 2: the app now also supports Bluetooth and the dual prism clamp has a DC connection and a USB-C port. Thus , The cables no longer get tangled so easily. AM5 N It has a 3/8" internal thread on the flat bottom, so it can be mounted directly onto suitable photographic tripods. GoTo, Live Preview, and much more can now be controlled via smartphone or tablet. This makes the AM5 N be ideal in combination with ZWO ASI Air .
ZWO AM5 Equatorial Mount with Harmonic Drive Gears
ZWO presents the Harmonic AM5 equatorial mount, a portable model for astrophotography. This mount weighs less than 5 kg and can support telescopes up to 13 kg without a counterweight. With a counterweight and counterweight bar (not included), it can support telescopes up to 20 kg. Several years of development and numerous patents have culminated in this exciting mount.
Numerous functions and easy operation
The AM5 can operate in both equatorial and altazimuth modes. For astrophotography, use equatorial mode. The mount must be aligned as precisely as possible with the celestial pole. For visual observation or lunar and planetary photography, altazimuth mode is sufficient. It will be ready to use in just a few minutes. The status indicator always shows the mount's current mode: red indicates equatorial mode and green altazimuth mode.
Counterweights are no longer needed
German mounts typically require counterweights to balance the telescope. This is the only way to ensure proper operation. The AM5 uses robotic technology, so it doesn't need counterweights with telescopes up to 13 kg. This makes it lighter, more compact, and easier to handle. We only recommend counterweights with heavier telescopes to maintain balance between the mount and tripod.
Guaranteed consistent tracking
ZWO checks and measures each AM5 mount before shipping and guarantees a periodic error (PE) of less than +/-20 arcseconds. The periodic error occurs very slowly, so the autoguiding system has ample time to correct it. The mount also features an ST-4 autoguiding interface. This can be controlled via ASIAir or other methods. In software , PE can also be reduced electronically.
For use anywhere on Earth
As you would expect from a true travel mount, the AM5 can be used anywhere on Earth, from the equator to the poles. It also fits in any carry-on luggage.
No more cables, thanks to Wi-Fi
All the mount's functions can be controlled via your mobile device. Of course, the AM5 works especially well with ZWO's ASIAir. With ASIAir, everything from the camera to autoguiding and the mount itself can be controlled using an app on your phone or tablet. The mount can also be operated with the hand controller, without needing your phone. Naturally, the hand controller also works wirelessly.
