With a 200mm primary mirror, the Sky-Watcher Newton 200 is one of the amateur instruments capable of revealing many deep-sky objects and details on the planets and the Moon. In fact, it collects 78% more light than a 150mm telescope and promises years of observations rich in discovery for both beginners and amateur astronomers.
Its Newtonian design offers several advantages over other instrument families (Cassegrain telescopes and binoculars). Mirrors are more economical to manufacture for the same diameter, and their focal ratio is generally very low. You therefore benefit, for an attractive budget, from a bright telescope offering a wide field of view (here f/D = 5) . The central obstruction is also weaker than that of Cassegrain-type telescopes.
Unlike cheaply made or small diameter Newtonian telescopes, the Sky-Watcher 150, 200, 250, and 300 mm Newtonian telescopes have a parabolic primary mirror . The mirrors are spherically ground and then recut to a more expensive and difficult-to-achieve paraboloid shape. This is an essential selection criterion for instruments larger than 130 mm and with short f/D .
Focusing is achieved via a dual-coil Crayford eyepiece holder. It enables fine focusing thanks to the 1:10 gear ratio . This is a significant advantage during high magnification observations and imaging. It can withstand heavy loads (e.g., APN) . A 31.75 mm adapter is supplied as standard for using the same format eyepieces starting at a 50.8 mm output. A clamping screw located on the bottom of the eyepiece holder allows focus to be maintained depending on the orientation of the optical tube.
To present the least possible obstruction, the secondary (flat) mirror mounting bracket has four thin, 0.5 mm wide branches. Sufficiently rigid, they thus limit diffraction spikes in bright stars and excessive brightness loss. A 9x50 achromatic finderscope is also supplied as standard in its mount, as well as a 28 mm (55°) LET eyepiece for low-magnification (wide-field) observations. It will be complemented by a short focal length eyepiece for planetary observations at high magnifications.
Everything you need to know about the Sky-Watcher NEQ5 mount
The Sky-Watcher NEQ5 equatorial mount is an all-rounder, a worthy successor to the legendary Vixen GP . Highly modular, it can be equipped with various options depending on whether it is used for observation or photography: motorization, Goto automatic pointing kit, polar viewfinder, etc. Its payload is around 9kg for visual observation ; therefore, the NEQ5 will support numerous optical tubes, from the small 80mm refractor to Newtonian telescopes up to 200mm in diameter.
For photography, the payload is limited to 7.5 kg for greater comfort and precision. Like all equatorial mounts, the NEQ5 is equipped with an azimuth and latitude offset (for positioning) and a right ascension and declination offset for star pointing and tracking.
The optical tube is mounted using a Vixen-type female dovetail. An accessory tray ensures good rigidity of the assembly. The NEQ5 mount can accommodate a polar finderscope (option no. SW0124) on the polar axis for rapid polar alignment.
Go-To Automated Time Clock System
After calibration (parking) with the polar finder on North Star, select mount alignment on one, two, or three stars. The database contains over 49,200 objects, including all major catalogs (Messier, NGC, IC, as well as the planets, the Moon, and the Sun). For maximum convenience, the mount moves quickly, up to 3.4°/sec, via the control panel. Easy to use, it helps you quickly point the instrument at any galaxy, nebula, cluster, or object in the solar system. Discover in detail the famous Andromeda Galaxy, the fabulous dresses surrounding the heart of Orion, the Hercules cluster M13 and its heart rich with thousands of stars. Saturn, Jupiter, and the Moon are also wonders to be explored without restraint.
The date, time, and observing location indication on the mount, combined with the "Tour" function, allows you to point the NEQ5 mount at the most interesting objects throughout the evening. Take a guided tour of the sky at your observing location by clicking the "Enter" button based on the object presented in a drop-down list. This procedure, called "Backlash," requires measuring the time between two opposite mount movements. The operation is simple and saves precious time, especially in astrophotography. The object you want to photograph is usually in the center of the sensor... a real pleasure!
