The MAGUS Lum V500L is an inverted microscope for reflected light fluorescence microscopy and transmitted light brightfield and phase contrast microscopy. For fluorescence microscopy, DAPI, FITC, and TRITC fluorochrome filters are used. The inverted design of the microscope enables you to study samples contained in laboratory vessels, such as Petri dishes, flasks, etc. The maximum height of laboratory vessels can be 55 mm, or 165 mm if the holder is tilted. The optics are designed to work with laboratory vessels with a bottom thickness of 1.2 mm. The microscope is ideal for research and routine laboratory work and can be used for educational purposes.

Digital camera

The MAGUS CLM90 digital camera is designed for use in fluorescence and darkfield microscopy techniques.
The camera is equipped with a 7.1 MP sensor and produces realistic images with a resolution of 3200x2200 pixels. It is recommended to use the camera with 4x, 10x, 20x, and 40x objectives. When working with low magnification objectives, the camera will allow you to see more details.
Video is recorded at 51.3 fps or 133.8 fps depending on the resolution used. Videos are smooth, with smooth and subtle transitions between frames. The movement of the observed sample is displayed in real time and without lag. The camera makes it easy to work with moving samples and is suitable for classroom presentations.
The camera is equipped with a USB 3.0 interface. The data transfer rate is 10 times faster than cameras with a USB 2.0 interface. A high-speed camera is recommended for professional laboratories, research work, or university training.

Optics

Two options for installing a digital camera and a monitor: the trinocular tube is for installing a monitor (not included in the kit) and the side port of the body is for installing a digital camera (not included in the kit). There is beam splitting: beam splitting in 100/0 and 0/100 ratios (microscope body), in 100/0 and 50/50 ratios (trinocular head). The 45° inclination angle of the eyepiece tube allows for comfortable observations. When assembling the microscope, the user can rotate the eyepiece tubes 180°.

The kit includes six plan achromatic objectives: three for brightfield and fluorescence microscopy, and three for phase contrast microscopy. The objectives are infinity-corrected and have a long working distance. The revolving nosepiece has six positions for objectives. It is located below the stage on a stand.

Illumination

The fluorescence excitation source is a 5 W LED with a lifespan of 50,000 hours. There are three excitation filters: DAPI, FITC, and TRITC fluorochrome filters. LED illumination is more energy-efficient and easier to maintain than mercury illumination, making it recommended for use in universities. LED illumination provides color consistency. LEDs turn on and off quickly and do not overheat during prolonged operation.

The transmitted light source is also a 5 W LED. It is bright enough for brightfield and phase contrast microscopy techniques with every objective.

Both reflected and transmitted illumination can be adjusted according to the Köhler illumination method. This method allows you to achieve the maximum resolution limit for each objective and obtain a clear, sharp image, free of artifacts or dark areas at the edges.

The microscope is equipped with a phase contrast condenser: three condenser positions are used for phase objectives with 10x, 20x, and 40x magnifications, and the fourth position is used for brightfield microscopy. The phase rings can be centered. You can switch between microscopy techniques by rotating a disk.

Stage and focusing mechanism The stage is fixed and is provided with a mechanical micrometre for moving laboratory vessels and three different-sized suction cup holders. Laboratory vessels can be moved in two mutually perpendicular directions in the horizontal plane. The microscope has a coarse and fine focusing mechanism. The coarse focusing mechanism has a locking knob and tension adjustment. The focusing adjustment knobs have an ergonomic design to allow the user to maintain a relaxed posture while working.

Accessories

The microscope can be equipped with additional eyepieces, calibration slides, or a digital camera, belonging to the MAGUS range of accessories.
