What is the difference between equatorial and azimuth mount?
Equatorial and azimuthal mounts are types of mounts used on telescopes and other astronomical observation instruments. The main difference between them lies in how they are oriented and how they allow the movement of celestial objects to be followed. But... How do you choose the right mount?
Azimuth Mount
It is the easiest to use, with left to right and up and down movements. Ideal for beginners!
📈 Perfect for observing objects that do not move quickly.
🌍 It is usually used for naked-eye observation of the earth and sky.
Azimuth mounts can be automatic, which are the most practical and advanced for beginner users, those that have fine movement rods for precision mechanical tracking and finally the fork mounts which are the most economical to start with 🔭✨
Equatorial Mount
The favourite of astronomers for its precision. Once aligned with the Earth's axis, it only needs one adjustment to track objects in the sky.
📸 Ideal for astrophotography and long observation sessions.
Equatorial mounts are also available in versions with automatic and manual tracking systems. Some allow the installation of a motor.
Which mount should I choose for my telescope?
👉 If you are looking for simplicity and quick observations, the azimuthal is for you.
👉 For astrophotography or if you want to track celestial objects accurately, opt for an equatorial mount!
