This eyepiece has a measuring scale located in the field diaphragm plane for measuring samples in millimeters or microns. The scale divisions are 0.1mm. This eyepiece is installed in an eyepiece tube 30 mm in diameter, replacing a standard eyepiece with 10x magnification. For each objective you use, you need to calibrate the measuring scale. This requires a calibration slide (stage micrometer) with 0.01 mm divisions. The slide is placed on the microscope stage, and the eyepiece is rotated in the tube until the eyepiece and slide scales are parallel.

For each objective, the division value of the eyepiece scale is also determined. For low magnification objectives, you should count the number of divisions on the eyepiece scale that fit within the calibration slide scale. For medium and high magnification objectives, you should do the opposite, i.e., count how many divisions on the slide scale fit within the eyepiece scale.

Then the division value (E) is calculated using this formula:

T – is the division value of the stage micrometer scale (0.01 mm);

L – number of divisions on the stage micrometer scale;

A – number of divisions on the eyepiece scale

To calculate the actual linear size of a sample, you need to measure the sample length on the eyepiece scale and then multiply this value by the E value calculated for the objective.
