This uncooled CMOS camera offers avery high resolutionand is suitable for lunar and planetary photography, as well as, with limitations, deep-sky photography.
TheZWO ASI 678MMIt is the successor to the ASI 178MM. It is distinguished by asignificantly lower noise , smaller pixels, higher sensitivity andan improved resolution . However, it has a slightly lower capture frequency (frame rate), which is still sufficient for planetary photography and can be increased using image cropping.(ROI)smaller. The maximum capacity of the Full Well is also somewhat smaller than that of its predecessor, the ASI 178MM, which, however, is of little importance for planetary photography. In contrast, the Amp Glow is alreadyNois present in the ASI 678MM. Furthermore, near-infrared sensitivity has been significantly increased, allowing for even better photographing of planets in this spectrum, as the negative influences of visibility are less noticeable.
TheASI 678MMhas ahigh gain modewhich is activated from a gain value of 182, whichsignificantly reduces reading noiseand increases the dynamic range by one stop. The uncooled camera can also be used to a limited extent for DeepSky photography, although the small chip size must be taken into account in this case. Therefore, it is best suited for compact planetary nebulae, double stars, or globular clusters. The 8.3-megapixel resolution is sufficient for DeepSky.
