MAGUS CHD40 Digital Camera

The MAGUS CHD40 is a camera model for integration with a microscope. The camera records in 4K resolution (3840x2160 pixels) and can automatically convert the image to Full HD (1920x1080 pixels) if required by an external monitor. The device is equipped with three types of interfaces: HDMI for connecting to a TV, monitor, or projector, as well as USB 3.0 and Wi-Fi for connecting to a computer. The frame rate is 30 fps regardless of the connection type. The camera features software that, in addition to taking photos and videos, allows image editing and even measuring the observed object. The device generates a high-quality image, free of delays or breaks, and the object is clearly visible, without distortion, even if it is moving.

Sensor

Inside the camera is a SONY Starvis color CMOS sensor. These sensors use back-illuminated technology that provides high light sensitivity with a reduced array size. The MAGUS CHD40 camera sensor size is 1/1.2" with a pixel size of 2.9x2.9 μm. The device’s light sensitivity is 1028 mV at a shutter speed of 1/30 seconds: the camera can take high-quality pictures in low-light conditions. To obtain an extremely wide field of view without deformation, use an adapter with 0.75x–1x magnification.

Software

The camera is ready for use due to a set of applications (it comes with built-in software and software installed from the included software CD). You can take pictures, record video, measure linear and angular dimensions of objects and their structures, and edit images. To perform measurements, be sure to first calibrate the software for each objective using a calibration slide. You can connect the camera to a TV, monitor, or projector via the HDMI interface, as well as to a computer via the USB 3.0 or Wi-Fi interface. Connection via HDMI or USB interfaces generates an image with 4K resolution; when connected to a computer using a Wi-Fi adapter a Full HD image is created.

Pairing with other devices

The camera supports additional devices. You can connect a mouse (included) to the USB connector. Working with it will avoid vibrations that occur when interacting directly with the device. You can save the research results to the included SD card or to a flash drive. You can connect one of the special MAGUS monitors, which are mounted directly on the camera and create a complete display system.

Installation on the microscope

There are two ways to install the camera on the microscope: into the trinocular tube or into the eyepiece tube. In both cases, you will need the C-mount adapter from the microscope kit to connect the devices. For installation into the eyepiece tube, an adapter ring for the tube diameter is also used.
