The 1.25" flat dimming glass moon filter simply needs to be inserted into the eyepiece thread. It reduces the intensity of the moon's glare and therefore increase contrast during observation. You need this filter first of all during the large lunar phases, since during these periods the disturbing subjective brightness of the moon is more intense.

More than just an ordinary moon filter
