The MAGUS Metal 600 BD metallurgical microscope is designed for studying objects in reflected light using brightfield, darkfield, and polarization microscopy techniques. This microscope is used for examining metal and semiconductor samples, as well as other flat, polished samples that have high reflectivity. In transmitted light, translucent samples, such as thin films and particles trapped in filters, can be studied. The microscope can be used in metallurgical and mechanical engineering industries, in engineering and quality control laboratories, as well as in technical universities.

Optics

The trinocular head has a trinocular tube for installing a digital camera. The beam splitter diverts light to the camera; there are two positions available for the beam splitter: 100:0 and 0:100. The entire light beam goes either to the eyepieces or to the trinocular tube. The diopter adjustment ring is on the left eyepiece.

The magnification of the microscope in the basic configuration is 50x–400x. Additional objectives and eyepieces can be installed to increase the magnification range. The microscope uses plan achromatic objectives with a long working distance for brightfield and darkfield microscopy techniques. The revolving nosepiece has five positions for installing objectives; the kit includes four objectives and another one can be optionally installed. The revolving nosepiece with the installed objectives is oriented inwards: the user can see the objectives inserted in the optical path.

Illumination

The illumination uses warm halogen lamps that do not cause eye strain even when working for long periods of time. The transmitted light illuminator has a power of 30W and the reflected light illuminator is 50W, allowing for proper work with the darkfield microscopy technique.

The reflected light illumination system includes: a darkfield device, a polarization device, centerable aperture and field diaphragms for the Köhler illumination method, and color filters. The light source can also be centered.

The transmitted light illumination system includes: a condenser with a flip-top lens for low magnification objectives and an aperture and field diaphragm for the Köhler illumination method.

Stage and focusing mechanism

The observed sample can be moved by shifting the stage along two axes. The height of the sample must not exceed 20mm. For working with translucent samples, the stage has a clear glass plate.

The focusing knobs are arranged coaxially on both sides of the microscope base. This allows the hands to rest on the table while working, rather than holding them in the air. The coarse focusing mechanism has a locking knob on the right side and a tension adjustment knob on the left side.

Accessories

The range of accessories compatible with the MAGUS Metal 600 BD microscope includes long working distance objectives for use with brightfield and darkfield eyepieces, calibration slides, and digital cameras.

Key features:

  • Reflected light observations of opaque, polished flat objects, up to 20mm thick, using brightfield, darkfield, and polarization microscopy techniques
  • Transmitted light observations of translucent samples
  • Trinocular tube for installing a digital camera, and beam splitter with two positions (100:0 and 0:100)
  • Plan achromatic objectives with a long working distance; the initials BD denote that the objectives are suitable for brightfield and darkfield techniques
