Tracking system to compensate for earth rotation

  • Simple AD motorization for the Sky-Watcher StarQuest mount
  • Compact and easy to install
  • Disconnectable motor for manual use
  • ST4 autoguidance port included

After stationing an equatorial mount, the Right Ascension (RA) axis is parallel to the Earth's axis of rotation . To track celestial objects for a day, all you have to do is make one complete rotation about this axis in 24 hours, rotating in the opposite direction to the Earth's rotation. This is the advantage of the equatorial mount compared to the azimuthal mount. For this, the fine displacement wheel or hose is generally used, but it is possible to completely automate the rotation using a motor with sidereal speed variator .

Sky-Watcher offers, especially for the small StarQuest equatorial mount, a motor that is fixed with 2 screws. The power supply is 3V, using a compartment for 2 AA batteries (not included). A switch is present to follow the movement of the stars in the 2 hemispheres. An autoguidance port (type ST-4) is included.

Included:

  • 1 disconnectable motor
  • 2 fixing screws + allen keys
  • 1 North/South switch
  • 1 ST4 autoguiding port
  • 1 battery compartment (2 AA batteries not included)
