The phase objective is designed for studying living specimens that are indistinguishable or barely visible without contrast. In this case, staining microorganisms is impossible, as it leads to their death. Phase contrast makes microorganisms visible without directly affecting or harming them.

For phase contrast observations, you will need a phase condenser. The 20HP objective is combined with a 20x-marked annular diaphragm or a phase contrast annular plate with a ring for the 20x objective.

The 20HP model has a 20x magnification and works best with eyepieces between 10x and 20x magnification. Together, they form a useful microscope magnification of 200x to 400x. There is no point in including eyepieces of a different magnification in the system, as they will either not provide a sufficiently informative image or will be excessive for it and will not bring any additional benefit. The objective distinguishes sample elements at a minimum distance of 0.69 µm.

The objective has a large flat field, covering 90% of the entire visible surface, and focuses equally well across the entire visible area. This feature is compatible with digital cameras or eyepieces with a 22 mm field of view. With a 10x/22 mm eyepiece, the field of view is 1.1 mm. The objective corrects chromatic aberrations at two wavelengths (red and blue) and spherical aberrations at one wavelength (green).

The 20HP model is mounted on an inverted biological or fluorescence microscope. It is used to study samples placed in laboratory vessels with a bottom thickness of less than 1.2 mm. The objective is infinity-corrected; the parfocal distance is 45 mm.
